Some decks ask you to solve a puzzle every turn. This one asks you to play characters, turn them sideways and collect free value. Elinor Aggro is an Amber/Emerald list built entirely from characters: 60 cards, only 16 different names. It wants three exerted characters every turn, and it rewards you handsomely when that happens. Even better, the whole list comes in around $175 (TCGplayer prices, Oct 12 2026), making it a great budget answer to the current meta.

The Payoff: Elinor, Renowned Diplomat

Elinor is a 4-cost, non-inkable 3/4 who quests for one. The real value is in her text. If you have three exerted characters, she gains you a lore, deals one damage and draws you a card. That one damage chips off small characters and sets up challenges for the following turn.

You're running four copies and want her down as fast as possible: turn four is fine, turn three is the dream. The good news is the deck still functions without her, because everything in it is built to quest anyway.

The Engine: Dale, Ready for His Shot

Dale is the card that turns a pile of cheap, low-strength characters into real threats. With Dale out, your zero-strength characters deal challenge damage based on their willpower instead of their strength. Suddenly Mickey, Mike Wazowski, Pluto and David can all challenge up despite costing next to nothing.

Dale also quests for two, and when he's exerted and gets challenged he hits the attacker back for four. That's the key synergy: questing turns on Elinor, and Dale means your sideways characters aren't free targets. Your opponent has to think hard about every challenge.

The Curve: One-Drops

  • Mickey Mouse - Best in Town: he must quest, but when he's exerted at the end of your turn each player gains an ink. Yes, it ramps your opponent too, but you'll use that ramp to land Elinor and Dale early and flood the board.
  • Aurora - Holding Court: when she quests, your next princess or queen costs one less. That covers Pocahontas, Rapunzel and Elinor.
  • Pluto - Friendly Pooch: exert him and your next character costs one less, which is a huge help for turn-three Elinor.
  • Bobby Zimuruski - Spray Cheese Kid: draw then discard to smooth out your hand.
  • Meilin Lee - Lead Vocalist: a 0/3 that quests for one. She can only sing with Sing Together, so she's here as a body, plus a bit of misdirection. Opponents may assume you're packing songs when you aren't.

The Curve: Two-Drops

  • Pocahontas - Guiding the Tribe: when played, play a one-drop for free. Two bodies for two ink, and she's a princess for Aurora. Drop her on turn two and you'll have three bodies ready to turn sideways the moment Elinor lands.
  • Mike Wazowski - Heroic Climber: when played and when he quests, each player reveals the top card and keeps it if it's a character. In an all-character deck, that's a guaranteed extra card every time.
  • Grandmother Willow - Ancient Advisor: once a turn, your next character costs one less. Stack her with Pluto and Aurora for explosive turns.
  • David - Protective Snowboarder: a 1/4 Bodyguard who can enter exerted to help trigger Elinor while protecting the rest of your board.
  • Ursula - Deceiver: look at your opponent's hand and take a song. With Circle of Life and other song-heavy decks around, she's excellent tech.

Nani and the Top End

Nani - Stage Manager looks at the top four and grabs a character costing two or less. With this many great one- and two-drops, she almost always hits, and alongside Mike she keeps your hand refilled.

Mickey Mouse - Expedition Leader can enter exerted for an Elinor trigger, and every time another character quests, a chosen opposing character gets -2 strength. When you're questing with everything, their board shrinks toward zero and challenges back get ugly. Not a card you'll need every game, but a great late-game protector.

Rapunzel - Tower Defender lets you discard a card to bounce a character to its owner's hand. It isn't permanent, but it's flexible removal you can land fairly early.

Finally, Pocahontas - Peacekeeper shifts for three onto Guiding the Tribe and quests for two lore. When you shift her, your opponent can't challenge the next turn. You can even shift a second copy on top the following turn to lock them out again, often winning before they meaningfully interact with your board.

The Game Plan

  • Flood the board with ones, twos and threes.
  • Turn them sideways and let Elinor gain lore, deal damage and draw cards.
  • Use Dale and Peacekeeper to punish or prevent challenges.
  • Be as fast as possible, but always hold some characters back so you can rebuild after a wipe.

Mulligans: Keep These

If you have Elinor, look for a cost reducer alongside her: Aurora, Pluto or Willow. Watch your inkables, though. Pluto, Willow and Elinor are all uninkable, so make sure you can actually hit your drops. Two one-drops plus a Pocahontas into Elinor is a great line, and Elinor on turn three with three characters turning sideways wins a lot of games.

Know your matchup when deciding what to ink. Meilin Lee is an easy inkable one-drop to toss, though she gets better with Dale in hand.

Matchups

The deck feasts on slower, controlling decks, as long as you have a fast, aggressive hand. The tougher matchups are Circle of Life decks, so track their singer count since Malicious, Mean and Scary plus Prince Phillip is rough for you. Yellow/purple control running Raging Storm is also tricky. Your removal is limited to Elinor pings and surprise Dale challenges, so don't overcommit into these decks.

Flex Slots

  • Meilin Lee is the first cut. Any inkable one-drop could fit, or add a couple of songs like Look at This Family to make her pull more weight.
  • Ursula could become Mowgli or similar depending on your meta.
  • Lenny is an option at three if you want more selection.

Budget: Where the Money Goes

Most of the list is inexpensive. The big-ticket card is Pocahontas - Peacekeeper, a legendary sitting around $20 at filming. She's great, but she's the card to replace if you need to, ideally with cheaper two- or three-drops to keep the curve low. Elinor is a little pricier too, but she's the heart of the deck and shouldn't be cut.
